as a group we thought it would be more interesting to show a mixture of family images that have been glitched. This was one of the ways we came across from researching different ways to represent our work whilst using premiere pro editing software. The editing we used didn’t take as long as we had expected it to. this was really handy as it looks great and we could also have time to then focus on our second movie which in turn takes much longer to edit.
I have decided on a group of images for my final piece. I wanted to choose a few different types of images. I chose some that I had taken inside the studio and some that I had taken in natural light. I think this is important to show my skills in both natural light and studio light. I also decided to use some of the other light painting images that I completed as these gave a really cool soft look to them. after taking the shots of the original light Spirograph’s that I had created, I decided to look at other ways that my final images could be represented in the way that I wanted. I feel as though these images that I have created came out really well, I can now see my creative side coming out and also everything that I have learnt in the studio, I am now incorporating into my natural day light photography.
Practice!
The first two images I wanted them sort of low key as I wanted to experiment later on with them in photoshop for one of my projects. The other images are just practice shots with my 85mm lense on my Nikon 810. I have found that this lense is my go to! I don’t go anywhere without it. It’s great for portraits and also perfect for a strong depth of field.
I have slightly added some more colour into these images just to give them some more life. However the first two I simply just turned them black and white. This shoot was a lot of fun to do as there were some really gorgeous shades and bright exposures to practice with. My lessons with Franklyn have really shown me how working with the simplist of things such as some tinfoil you can really get the most out of the summer sunshine!
“In these pictures we see with heart-breaking intensity William’s efforts to explain his altered self, his fears and his sadness.” written by his wife Patricia.
whilst researching for our group project, i found this artists who created a series of paintings over 5 years. they display his journey since he was diagnosed with Alzheimers. the series of paintings show how over time he has forgotten his own identity and also the ones around him. these images are some what inspiring to carry on no matter what you are going through. in the article in which i found these images they are unsure wether the loss in artistic skills was down to his mind fading away or his change in physic. either way the paintings show a journey.
As a group we found that it would be nicer to show a journey not just with my nan but with all the shoots we have taken we wanted them to all link some how. we are starting off our video with my nan’s hands and then we are going to show the rest of the clips that can be associated with memory and things that we personally can attach ourselves with as well, for example the song that is going to be played over the top of the video is a family song with my nan and grandad actually danced to at their wedding. we have also incorporated nature shots and animals which is something that Leah who is part of my group strongly associates with her memory’s. one thing that helps us link all of our shoots together as well is that we have all had some one in our family who has been affected by the Alzheimers disease, so we each have something that we can connect to the members of our family who have been affected throughout this video.
Whilst researching for any inspiration for my group project, i found a group of artists working for a company called Grupo Gallegos which is based in California and usually creates advertising videos. The distorted images are the same size as gallery prints and are created to raise awareness about how Alzheimer’s sufferers see the world and are also heavily distorted to try and put the viewer in the mind of the patient.
i really like these images and have given me some inspiration for some different ideas to work on when it comes to Glitching the image. it has made me think about the presentation of our project and how it can be changed. i came up with some ideas that alongside our video and Glitched GiFs we can have cut up images like the one above that we have created to the side to give the viewer a more in depth reason as to what our video is about. This research has really helped me understand how i can present my work and also the different ways in which i can do this. wether it be practically or digitally made.
As the gif was only 3 seconds long, i decided to copy and paste the image. as a group we were going to loop the video but the whole point of the glitched gifs was that it would look confusing so we didn’t want it to look basic. when i was on premiere pro i just copied and pasted the videos next to each other this then made the videos longer and also repeat. we realised that because it wasn’t on a loop it would stop and some would be longer than the others. But we decided that it would be a good idea that some of them would stop at different times so that the viewers are able to see the glitched images once they have stopped.
Glitched GIFS.
As part of our group project based on mental health we wanted to glitch images to show the distortion of the memory in alzheimer sufferers. we glitched these images using text edit and deleting text within the image, we then created the GIF using photoshop and premiere pro. the only thing that we need to add to this video is to keep it on a loop. as a group we also wanted to put these glitched GIFS in a collage, we are going to experiment with this and see what the out come is.
The second image was taken in 2008 just before his father was diagnosed with alzheimers. some of these images are so breathtaking and beautiful. this is what our group wants to show the sensitive side to this disease.
Whilst doing my research for our group project i come across this advert which lloyds banks have started up. this helps to encourage more people to talk about their own mental health or even scrapping it as a taboo subject. they focus on non visible disability’s such as bi-polar disorder, paranoia and anxiety.
i found this advert really helpful in making me understand the importance of this subject and also the sensitivity of it as well.
